Bentley Community Pub Ltd is the society that was established to enable the community of Bentley and its supporters to purchase the Case is Altered. It is constituted as an Industrial & Provident Society for the Benefit of the Community (now known as a Community Benefit Society under new legislation), registered with the Financial Conduct Authority (Nº 32163R) and is a not-for-profit organisation.
Under our constitution, we are governed on a ‘one member one vote’ basis. This means that each member, regardless of the amount they invested, has an equal say in the running of the society.
The society is able to pay interest to members, capped at 3% above the Bank of England base per annum. After payment of this interest and repayment of any share withdrawals, any trading surplus must be reinvested in the business or used for other community purposes.
We are the first co-operative pub in Suffolk to operate under this type of structure.
The Management Committee of Bentley Community Pub Ltd is currently made up of six Bentley residents: Kate Spicer (Chair), Cliff Daldy (Secretary), Peter Cross (Treasurer), Chris Pink, David Eastall and John Campbell. They have the same financial interest in the society as all other investors.
