We are delighted to announce that Bentley Community Pub Ltd has been shortlisted for a prestigious award from national charity the Plunkett Foundation.
When the Case is Altered closed in March 2013, the community rallied round to save their last remaining pub. Following a successful community buyout, the pub reopened at Easter 2014, managed and staffed entirely by a team of over 30 dedicated volunteers from the local community. Thanks to this volunteer involvement the pub is now thriving back at the heart of village life, as the first and currently only co-operative pub in Suffolk.
Our efforts have now been recognised by the Plunkett Foundation who have shortlisted it for the Better Co-operation category in its national Rural Community Ownership Awards, designed to recognise the very best examples in the sector. The winners will be announced at a ceremony on Tuesday 1st July in Oxfordshire.
It is a great honour just to be shortlisted for the Better Co-operation award, particularly as we are the only pub and the only enterprise from East Anglia to be shortlisted for any of the awards. It is a wonderful tribute to the hundreds of people who have invested so much money, effort and time into saving The Case, and everyone who has been involved in this project can feel justifiably proud of this accolade.
